Nur Al-Din Ali Ibn Abdul-Warith
Nur Al-Din Ali Ibn Abdul-Warith (1): Sheikh Nur Al-Din Ali Bin Muhammad Bin Abdul-Warith Al-Bakri of Egypt was born in 744 AH. He was devoted to seeking knowledge and learned fiqh (jurisprudence) from Ibn ‘Aqil and others. He received hadiths from Al-Ezz Bin Jama’ah the judge. He was particularly brilliant at jurisprudence and memorized large amounts. He was known for enjoining the good and taking harsh stances against those found to be engaged in wrongdoing. He did this so frequently that some of his friends recommended that he oversee the institution of hisbah (regulating the marketplace). He was then appointed to run the hisbah of Egypt several times. He became so worn out from his duties that the job became a burden for him. He was no longer working there when he died at the age of 63 in Dhul Qi’dah of 806 AH.
