Umm Ruman Al-Kinaniyah, Wife of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq
Umm Ruman Al-Kinaniyah (1): Umm Ruman Bint Aamer Bin Uwaymir was from the tribe of Kinanah and a narrator of the hadith. Upon embracing Islam, she pledged her allegiance to the Prophet and emigrated to Madinah. She was one of the first emigrants, a devoutly obedient worshipper, and the mother of Abdel-Rahman and Aisha, two of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq’s children, may Allah be pleased with him.
Umm Ruman narrated on the authority of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him and his family, while Masrouk narrated on her authority. Al-Bukhari included her narrations in his books. When her daughter, Aisha, the Mother of the Believers, was falsely accused of adultery, Umm Ruman fell down and fainted. She passed away in Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah in the month of Dhul Hijjah in 6 AH (628 AD). Some reports place her death in 5 AH, or even 4 AH, but 6 AH is more accurate.
When she was being buried, the Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him and his family, descended into her grave and asked Allah for her forgiveness, saying: “O Allah, it is no secret what Umm Ruman endured for the sake of You and Your Messenger.”
It was also narrated that the Prophet, praise and peace be upon him, said: “One who wishes to see a woman of the Hoor al-‘Ayn should look at Umm Ruman.”
